INTERVIEW WITH BAMMA MATCHMAKER JUDE SAMUEL 9TH JULY 2010

PostDateIcon Fri, 09/07/2010 - 16:39 | PostAuthorIcon david

INTERVIEW WITH BAMMA MATCHMAKER JUDE SAMUEL

(B) How did you think BAMMA 3 went - Was it a step up from BAMMA 2?

(JS) Yes BAMMA 3 was a massive leap forward. I think we learned a lot from BAMMA 2 and BAMMA 1 in terms of production, the fight card and the way things should or shouldn’t be run. BAMMA 2 gave us loads of ideas in terms of the look and feel of the show.

(B) What were the highlights of the night on BAMMA 3?

(JS) BAMMA 3 got better and better with each fight. Starting from the Martin McDonagh V Mike Wood bout the night just got bigger and better culminating in the main event (Horwich v Watson). In terms of the fights: KO of the night went to Ashleigh Grimshaw, submission of the night went to Jeff Lawson for his trade mark arm bar on Dave Lee and fight of the night went to our main event - Matt Horwich v Tom Watson.

(B) Can you give us any exclusives about the BAMMA 4 fight card?

(JS) I’m keeping the fight card close to my chest at the moment, but we’ll be announcing some fights very soon - watch this space.

BAMMA is delighted to announce the details for our next MMA event.

PostDateIcon Fri, 02/07/2010 - 12:45 | PostAuthorIcon david

BAMMA is delighted to announce the details for our next MMA event.

BAMMA 4 will take place at the stunning National Indoor Arena (NIA) on Saturday 25th September 2010. Located within Central Birmingham, the NIA is one of the UK’s leading venues having played host to a myriad of top sporting and entertainment events and September 2010 sees the NIA open its doors for BAMMA’s most explosive Mixed Martial Arts event to date.

The BAMMA 4 fight card will deliver exceptional match ups featuring the cream of MMA talent from both home and abroad. These match ups will be released one by one via www.bamma.com over the coming weeks with each bout guaranteed to bring its own drama and excitement to the event.

Headlining the event is the hugely anticipated battle for the BAMMA Middleweight Title between Alex ‘Reidernator’ Reid and Tom ‘Kong’ Watson. After Alex Reid was forced to pull out of this fight at BAMMA 3 due to injury, there were many in the press that doubted his appetite and expected him to walk away from the fight with Tom Watson. However, Alex’s MMA career shows that he has been in the ring with the very best and has never dodged a challenge. With his commitment and hunger for this fight stronger than ever, and with Tom at the peak of his powers, the date is set, the venue is ready and one of the most eagerly anticipated domestic fights in years is ON.

David Green, director of Giant Film & TV and BAMMA, had this to say about the upcoming event: “BAMMA 4 looks set to be our biggest and most impressive event yet. We’re proud to be bringing such a high standard of MMA to British fans, and know they won’t be disappointed by the talent on display at BAMMA 4.”

Jude Samuel, BAMMA’s matchmaker, said “I don't think we've even scratched the surface of how big this will be, so I'm very excited to be building another competitive fight card around our main event. BAMMA 3 was an amazing show for us. We exceeded a lot of the goals that we had set for ourselves so everyone is looking to see what we will come up with for BAMMA 4.”

Tickets for BAMMA 4 go on sale soon with ticket prices starting at £15. Tickets will be available at www.theticketfactory.com. Visit www.bamma.com for more details.

PostDateIcon Wed, 16/06/2010 - 15:23 | PostAuthorIcon david

THE BIG 10

(B) What mixed martial artist inspires you?

(RS) My favourite mixed martial artist has always been Chuck Liddell. He was the first fighter I watched and I’ve always been excited about the way he fights and the way he wins fights with KO’s. It’s similar to the way I like to win.

(B) When did you start MMA?

(RS) About four or five years ago. I’d done a bit of Thai Boxing before that. I first got into it with Michael Bisping who went to the same gym as me in Burnley. I just got talking to him and he invited me to come along and start training with him.

(B) What has been your biggest achievement in mixed martial arts?

(RS) Beating Daniel Weichel on BAMMA 3. Not only was he my toughest opponent but it was my best performance so far.
